Akademikerförbundet SSR is giving notice of a sympathy strike against the gaming company King (Midasplayer AB) to support Sveriges Ingenjörer and the union called Unionen, who have previously announced that they will strike if a collective agreement is not reached. If a collective agreement is not in place, Akademikerförbundet SSR will begin its sympathy strike on September 29th at 05:00.
"If Sweden is to seriously compete for talent in a growing gaming and tech industry, employees need security, the right to good working conditions, and greater influence. That requires a collective agreement, regardless of how fast growing the company is" says Heike Erkers, chair of Akademikerförbundet SSR.
The fact that King continues to grow without a collective agreement is a problem that extends beyond the individual workplace: a collective agreement is what gives employees security, reasonable conditions, and real influence over their working situation, and that applies regardless of how young or fast-growing a company is. By joining the sympathy action, Akademikerförbundet SSR is signaling that we fully stand behind Sveriges Ingenjörer and Unionen and will continue to support both members and other employees at King until a collective agreement is in place.
Sveriges Ingenjörer has asked Akademikerförbundet SSR for supportive sympathy action, which is why the union is now giving notice of strike.
What is a sympathy action?
A sympathy action (supportive industrial action) is taken to support another, already lawful, ongoing industrial action — in this case, the conflict between Sveriges Ingenjörer and Unionen and Midasplayer AB. The right to take sympathy action is regulated, among other things, by Section 41 of the Co-Determination Act (MBL).
What does it mean that Akademikerförbundet SSR has issued a notice of sympathy strike?
Akademikerförbundet SSR has been asked by Sveriges Ingenjörer to support their efforts to secure a collective agreement for your workplace by issuing a notice of sympathy industrial action (strike).
Akademikerförbundet SSR supports the efforts of Sveriges Ingenjörer and to establish a collective agreement between the parties in order to ensure secure terms and conditions of employment and workplace influence for all employees.
Industrial action can take different forms, but in this case the notice concerns a strike. This means that if you are a member of Akademikerförbundet SSR and employed by Midasplayer AB, you must not and may not perform any work duties during the strike.
You are also entitled to full strike compensation from Akademikerförbundet SSR for the duration of the strike.
Why do we feel that industrial action has become necessary?
The parties have been unable to make progress in negotiations concerning a collective agreement. Negotiations continued for an extended period without producing a result. All relevant issues related to the signing of a collective agreement have now been thoroughly discussed, and further negotiations are no longer considered meaningful. Midasplayer AB is not prepared to enter into a collective agreement with Sveriges Ingenjörer.
We sincerely hope that the parties will reach an agreement so that the conflict can be avoided.
What happens next?
If the parties fail to reach an agreement, members of Sveriges Ingenjörer and will begin strike action on 25 September 2026 at 05:00, and members of Akademikerförbundet SSR will begin strike action on 29 September 2026 at 05:00.
The strike will include all members of Akademikerförbundet SSR at King and means that none of these members may perform any work duties during the strike. As a member of Akademikerförbundet SSR, you are entitled to full compensation during the strike.
Members of Akademikerförbundet SSR at King will be called out on strike on 29 September at 05:00.
